1. About these terms
These Hardcore Mode Terms apply if you turn on Hardcore Mode in the RiseDare app. RiseDare is operated by (to be added), (to be added) ("RiseDare", "we", "us"). They form part of our Terms of Service and should be read with the Subscription & Auto-Renewal Terms, the Refund & Cancellation Policy and the Privacy Policy.
Hardcore Mode involves real money. Please read these terms fully before you turn it on. If you do not agree with any part of them, do not use Hardcore Mode. The rest of RiseDare works without it.
2. What Hardcore Mode is
Hardcore Mode is an optional commitment feature. You choose an amount, called your stake, between ₹10 and ₹1,000. If you miss an alarm that has Hardcore Mode on, that amount is charged to your payment method. If you get up and finish your dare in time, nothing is charged.
The idea is simple: a promise you make to yourself is easier to keep when breaking it costs something. Hardcore Mode is off by default, is never required to use RiseDare, and can be turned off by you at any time.
3. A commitment tool, not gambling
Hardcore Mode is a voluntary self-commitment tool. It is not gambling, betting, wagering, a lottery, a contest or a game of chance or of skill.
This is how it differs:
- There are no winnings and no prize. You can never receive more money than you started with by using Hardcore Mode. The best financial outcome is that you are charged nothing.
- Nothing depends on chance or on an uncertain event outside your control. Whether you are charged depends only on whether you complete your own dare in time.
- There is no pool and no opponent. Your stake is never paid to another user, and no user ever receives another user's money.
- You do not deposit money in advance. An amount is charged only after a miss is confirmed.
- It is not an investment, a savings product, a deposit or a financial service, and no interest or return is paid.
4. Who can use it
Hardcore Mode is available only if all of the following are true:
- You are 18 years of age or older. Hardcore Mode is disabled for users under 18, and you must confirm your age when you turn it on.
- You have an active Pro plan (Pro Monthly, Pro Yearly, Lifetime or a place in a Family plan).
- You have a valid UPI AutoPay mandate or a card on file that is your own and that you are authorised to use.
- Hardcore Mode is available in your country and is not prohibited by the law that applies to you. It is not available where prohibited.
- You are using your own money. Do not use a payment method that belongs to someone else, including a parent, an employer or the organiser of your Family plan.
5. Turning it on: your consent
Hardcore Mode is turned on only by you, from the Hardcore Mode screen in the app. Before it starts you are shown the amount of your stake, where the money goes, the limits that apply and these terms, and you must give your explicit consent on that screen.
We keep a record of your consent, including the text you agreed to, the date and time, and the IP address from which you agreed. This record is kept so that both you and we can show what was agreed.
You then set up the payment method: a UPI AutoPay mandate approved in your UPI app, or a card that you authorise for these charges. You choose which of your alarms have Hardcore Mode on. An alarm without Hardcore Mode never leads to a charge.
6. Your stake
Your stake is the amount charged for each missed alarm that has Hardcore Mode on. You choose it yourself, between ₹10 and ₹1,000 per missed alarm. The amount is stored in your settings and is the only amount that can be charged for a miss; it is never changed by us.
Choose an amount that is meaningful to you but that you can comfortably afford to lose. Do not set a stake that would cause you hardship. You can lower your stake at any time, as explained under Changing your settings.
7. What counts as a miss
A miss is confirmed when your dare is not completed within 30 minutes of the alarm time, or when the alarm is dismissed by going around the app, for example by force-closing the app, uninstalling it or changing the device time.
Please also note:
- If your phone reports nothing to us for an alarm that had Hardcore Mode on, for example because the phone was switched off or had no power, the alarm is treated as missed. If that happened for a reason outside your control, you can appeal.
- Finishing the backup mission that the app offers in place of your chosen mission counts as completing your dare.
- An alarm that you skipped or turned off in the app before it was due, within the rules on changing settings below, is not a miss.
8. Reminders and pre-debit notifications
We remind you the evening before an alarm that has money on it, so that you are not surprised by it. Keep notifications for RiseDare turned on to receive these reminders.
Charges are collected under the mandate or card authorisation you gave. A pre-debit notification is sent before each charge, as required by the Reserve Bank of India's rules on recurring payments and e-mandates. Depending on the amount and on your bank's rules, your bank may ask you to approve a charge again.
9. How and when you are charged
When a miss is confirmed and no grace pass applies, the stake for that alarm is charged to your UPI AutoPay mandate or card. Each charge appears in History in the app with the alarm it relates to, the amount, and where the money went, and a receipt is available there.
Each missed alarm is charged once. The amount charged is the stake that was in force for that alarm; an amount is never taken from you because of something reported by another person.
Charges are processed by our payment gateway partner. We do not receive or store your full card number, card security code or UPI PIN.
10. Where the money goes
When you set up Hardcore Mode you choose one of two destinations for your stakes. You can change the choice in settings, and the change applies to later charges.
- Kept by RiseDare: the amount is kept by us as revenue. Choosing this option is not a donation.
- Donated to a cause: the amount is passed on to the cause you picked from the list of verified causes shown in the app at the time.
- Donations are passed on monthly, and we publish a donation report showing the amounts passed on.
- The list of causes can change. If the cause you picked is no longer on the list, we will ask you to pick another one.
- A tax receipt for a donation, such as a receipt under section 80G of the Income Tax Act, is available only where the receiving organisation issues one. We do not promise that a donation made through Hardcore Mode gives you a tax deduction. Ask your tax adviser if this matters to you.
- You never receive a stake back as a reward, cash-back or credit. The only way an amount is returned to you is a refund after a successful appeal or the correction of an error.
11. Grace passes
Everyone has an off day. You get 1 free grace pass each calendar month. A grace pass cancels the charge for one missed alarm.
The grace pass is applied automatically to your first miss of the month, unless you have turned auto-apply off in settings. If you turn auto-apply off, you choose which miss to use the pass on. A grace pass has no cash value, cannot be transferred to anyone else, and a pass that is not used in a calendar month does not carry over to the next month.
12. Limits that protect you
- The stake is limited to between ₹10 and ₹1,000 per missed alarm.
- A maximum of ₹3,000 is charged in any 7-day period. Misses beyond that limit in the same period are recorded but are not charged.
- You get 1 free grace pass each calendar month.
- Hardcore Mode is never turned on for you. It is always your own choice, alarm by alarm.
- You can lower your stake or turn Hardcore Mode off at any time, subject only to the evening cut-off described below.
- We may lower these limits, or pause Hardcore Mode on an account, where we see signs that it is causing harm or is being misused.
13. Changing your settings or turning it off
You can lower your stake, change where the money goes, remove Hardcore Mode from an alarm, or turn Hardcore Mode off completely, at any time from the Hardcore Mode screen in the app.
Changes made after 10 PM apply from the next day. This cut-off exists because the whole point of a commitment is that it cannot be undone at the last minute; it means that a change made late at night does not affect the alarm for the morning that follows. A change made before 10 PM applies to the next morning's alarm.
You can also pause or revoke your UPI AutoPay mandate from your UPI app at any time. If the mandate is paused or revoked, or your card can no longer be charged, Hardcore Mode is turned off until you set up a valid payment method again. A charge for a miss that was confirmed before that point remains due.
14. Appeals
If you were charged for a miss that was not your fault, you can appeal. Appeal within 7 days, from History in the app, by selecting the charge and telling us what happened. We review appeals within 48 hours and refund approved appeals in full to the original payment method.
Examples of situations in which we will normally approve an appeal:
- Your phone was switched off, broken, lost, stolen or out of power for a reason outside your control.
- A bug in the app or in the operating system stopped the alarm from ringing or stopped the dare from being verified.
- A medical emergency, illness or hospital stay, affecting you or someone you had to care for.
- Travel, such as a flight, or a change of time zone that made the alarm impossible to complete.
- A charge that should not have been made at all: a duplicate charge, a wrong amount, a charge after you had turned Hardcore Mode off in time, or a charge for an alarm you completed.
- We may ask for a short explanation or simple supporting information. We will not ask for more personal or medical detail than is needed to decide the appeal.
- We will tell you the result in the app. If your appeal is refused, we will give the reason, and you can ask our Grievance Officer to look at it again.
15. Refunds, failed charges and disputes
Stakes are not refundable once a missed alarm is confirmed, except through a successful appeal or where the charge was made in error. Donated amounts that have already been passed on to a cause cannot be reversed. Refund timelines are set out in the Refund & Cancellation Policy.
If a charge cannot be collected, for example because of insufficient balance or a bank decline, we may try to collect it again as far as your mandate and the payment rules allow, and Hardcore Mode may be paused on your account until the payment method works again. We do not add interest or a late fee to a stake.
If you disagree with a charge, please use the appeal process first: it is quick and approved appeals are refunded in full. You keep your right to raise a dispute with your bank. While a bank dispute about a stake is open, Hardcore Mode may be suspended on your account.
16. Fair play
Hardcore Mode works on honesty. The app on your phone records whether your dare was completed. The commitment is one you make to yourself, and tampering with it defeats its purpose.
The following are not allowed and may lead to the miss being confirmed, to Hardcore Mode being turned off, or to the account being suspended under our Terms of Service:
- Using a modified version of the app, automation or any other tool to fake a completed dare.
- Changing the device time or time zone to avoid an alarm.
- Force-closing or uninstalling the app to stop an alarm.
- Giving false information in an appeal, or making appeals repeatedly without a genuine reason.
- Using Hardcore Mode with a payment method that is not yours, or raising bank disputes against charges that you agreed to.
17. Alarm reliability and our responsibility
We work hard to make alarms reliable, but an alarm depends on your device, its operating system settings, its battery, its volume hardware and the permissions you have given the app. Follow the set-up guide in the app, especially the battery and background settings on Android, before relying on Hardcore Mode.
If an alarm with Hardcore Mode on does not ring because of a fault in our app or a device problem outside your control, appeal the charge and we will refund it. A refund of the stake is our full responsibility for such a charge. Our Terms of Service explain the limits on our liability, including that RiseDare must not be your only alarm for critical events.
18. Use it responsibly
Hardcore Mode is meant to be a small, motivating nudge. It is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it if you are in financial difficulty, if losing the stake would affect your ability to pay for essentials, or if you find that it is causing you stress, anxiety or loss of sleep. If you are being charged often, lower your stake or turn Hardcore Mode off and use the standard alarm and missions instead.
Never attempt a mission in an unsafe place or when you are unwell in order to avoid a charge. Your safety and health always come before a stake. If illness or an emergency stopped you from completing a dare, appeal the charge.
19. Records and privacy
To run Hardcore Mode we process your consent record, your stake settings, the result of each alarm with Hardcore Mode on, your charges, appeals and refunds, and the transaction reference and status that we receive from the payment gateway. Hardcore Mode transaction logs are kept for 8 years, including after you delete your account, as required for tax and accounting purposes. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data.
If you chose to donate, the cause receives the money, not your personal details, unless you ask for a receipt that requires your details to be shared with the receiving organisation.
20. When Hardcore Mode ends, and changes to these terms
Hardcore Mode ends on your account when you turn it off, when your Pro plan ends, when your payment method is no longer valid, when you delete your account, or if we suspend or withdraw the feature. We may withdraw Hardcore Mode entirely or in a particular place if the law or a payment partner's rules require it. A charge for a miss confirmed before Hardcore Mode ended remains valid, and your right to appeal it within 7 days continues.
We will notify you in the app or by e-mail at least 15 days before a material change to these terms. A change that increases what you can be charged will not apply to you unless you give your consent again in the app.
21. Help, complaints and company details

We acknowledge complaints within 24 hours and aim to resolve them within 15 days. You may also contact the National Consumer Helpline. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 or any other law that cannot be excluded.
