Health & Wellness Disclaimer

RiseDare supports healthy mornings, but it is not a medical device and nothing in it is medical advice. Please read this before using fitness missions, sleep tracking or Chuzi's tips.

1. Purpose of this disclaimer

RiseDare is an alarm clock app that asks you to complete a real-world mission, which we call a dare, before the alarm stops. Some dares involve physical movement, the app can estimate how you slept, and the Chuzi AI coach can offer tips about sleep and morning routines.

This disclaimer explains what those features are and are not, and what we ask of you so that you can use them safely. It forms part of our Terms of Service and applies to the RiseDare apps and to risedare.com, including the blog, the help centre and the Chuzi chat on the website. It is provided by (to be added).

2. Not medical advice and not a medical device

Sleep scores, sleep phases, snoring detection, the smart wake window, the wake-up predictor, Chuzi's tips, blog articles and fitness missions are estimates and general information for wellness. They are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease or medical condition.

Nothing in RiseDare is a substitute for advice from a qualified doctor or other health professional who knows your circumstances. Do not ignore professional advice, delay seeking it, or change or stop a treatment or medicine because of something you saw in the app, read on our website or were told by Chuzi.

RiseDare is a general wellness product. It is not a medical device and has not been assessed, certified or approved as one by any health regulator. Its measurements come from the sensors in an ordinary phone or watch, not from clinical equipment.

Do not use RiseDare to monitor a medical condition, and do not rely on it where a missed or wrong reading could put you or someone else at risk.

3. Fitness missions: exercise safely

Missions such as push-ups, squats, dancing, shaking the phone and walking steps involve physical effort, usually seconds after you wake up. Do fitness missions only if you are physically able to.

  • Use the backup mission, or choose a non-physical mission, if you are injured, pregnant, unwell, recovering from surgery or illness, or have been advised by a doctor not to exercise.
  • If you have a heart, blood pressure, breathing, joint, back or balance condition, or any condition that exercise could affect, ask your doctor before choosing fitness missions.
  • Getting up suddenly can make some people light-headed. Sit up and take a moment before you start.
  • Stop at once if you feel pain, dizziness, faintness, chest discomfort or shortness of breath, and seek medical help if it does not pass quickly.
  • Choose a number of repetitions that suits your fitness. You set the difficulty; a harder setting is not a recommendation from us.
  • Pose detection counts repetitions. It does not check that your form is correct or safe.

4. Do missions in a safe place

You are responsible for where and how you complete a dare. Be aware of your surroundings, especially when you are still half asleep.

  • Never do a mission on a road, at a height such as a balcony edge, rooftop or stairs, near water, or anywhere you could fall or be struck.
  • Never do a mission while driving, riding or operating machinery.
  • For photo missions such as the sky photo, step outside or to a window only where it is safe to do so. Do not lean out of windows or over railings.
  • Clear enough floor space for exercise missions and watch for furniture, pets and other people.
  • Do not point the camera at other people without their consent.
  • Alarms are loud by design. Keep the volume at a level that is comfortable for you and avoid holding the speaker against your ear.

5. Sleep tracking: what the numbers mean

Sleep tracking is optional. When it is on, the app uses your device's motion sensors and microphone to estimate when you slept, how well, in which phases, and whether you snored.

These are estimates. They can be affected by where the phone is placed, a partner or pet in the bed, background noise, the device you use and many other things. Sleep phases shown in the app are inferred from movement and sound and are not the same as the measurements taken in a sleep laboratory. A good score does not mean you are healthy, and a poor score does not mean something is wrong.

Snoring detection can tell you that snoring-like sounds were recorded. It cannot detect or rule out sleep apnoea or any other condition.

The smart wake window and wake-up predictor are conveniences. They do not guarantee that you will feel rested or that you will wake at a particular time.

6. When to see a professional

Consult a qualified doctor if you have any of the following, whatever the app shows:

  • Persistent insomnia or difficulty staying asleep.
  • Loud snoring with gasping, choking or pauses in breathing.
  • Daytime sleepiness that affects your work, studies or driving.
  • Pain, dizziness or other symptoms during or after exercise.
  • Any other worry about your sleep, your physical health or your mental health.

7. Getting enough sleep

RiseDare helps you get up at the time you chose. It does not decide how much sleep you need. Waking earlier without going to bed earlier means sleeping less, and too little sleep is harmful. Set alarms that leave you enough time to rest, and do not use streaks, groups, challenges or Hardcore Mode as a reason to cut your sleep short or to get up when you are ill.

If you are unwell or need rest, use a streak freeze, switch off the alarm for the day, or turn Hardcore Mode off in advance. Your health matters more than a streak.

8. Mental wellbeing

Affirmations, verses, streaks, group nudges and Chuzi's roasts and hype messages are meant to motivate and to be fun. They are not therapy or counselling, and Chuzi is not a mental health professional.

If the app's challenges, reminders or group pressure make you anxious or distressed, turn those features off or stop using them. If you are struggling, or thinking about harming yourself, please contact a doctor, a mental health professional or your local emergency services straight away.

9. Chuzi AI and health topics

Chuzi can give general sleep and morning-routine tips. Its replies are generated by an AI language model, which can be wrong or out of date and does not know your medical history. Do not rely on Chuzi for medical decisions, and do not share health conditions or other sensitive information with it. For health issues Chuzi is designed to suggest that you see a doctor. See the Chuzi AI Terms.

10. Health-critical alarms and emergencies

No phone alarm is guaranteed to ring. RiseDare must not be your only alarm for medication, medical appointments, caring duties or safety-critical work. Use a second, independent reminder for anything that affects your health or someone else's.

RiseDare is not an emergency service and cannot call for help. In a medical emergency, contact your local emergency number or go to the nearest hospital.

11. Children and teenagers

Users under 18 use RiseDare with the consent of a parent or guardian. Parents and guardians should choose missions that suit the child's age and ability, make sure they are done in a safe place, and make sure that alarm times leave enough sleep for a growing child.

12. Your responsibility and ours

You use the fitness, sleep and coaching features at your own choice, and you are responsible for deciding whether they are suitable for you. To the extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for injury, illness or loss that results from doing a mission in an unsafe way or place, from ignoring this disclaimer, or from relying on estimates or AI output as if they were medical advice. The Liability section of the Terms of Service applies.

Nothing in this disclaimer limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or the rights you have as a consumer under the Consumer Protection Act 2019 or the law of the country where you live.
