Nap calculator

A nap can rescue an afternoon or ruin it. The difference is mostly its length. Enter when you are lying down and get the time to set your alarm.

Short, or a full cycle. Not in between.

20 minutes

Light sleep only. You wake up clearer and can get straight back to work.

90 minutes

One whole cycle, deep sleep included, ending back in light sleep. Good after a short night.

Set an alarm

A nap with no alarm is how twenty minutes becomes two hours and a bad night.

Questions people ask

How long should a power nap be?

About 10 to 20 minutes of sleep. That is long enough to feel refreshed and short enough that you are unlikely to drop into deep sleep.

Why do I feel groggy after a nap?

Naps of roughly 30 to 60 minutes often end in deep sleep, and waking from deep sleep causes that heavy, foggy feeling. Keep it short, or sleep a full cycle of about 90 minutes.

What is the best time of day to nap?

Early afternoon suits most people. A nap late in the day can make it harder to fall asleep at night.
