The best alarm settings for heavy sleepers
Sleep through every alarm? Here are the settings that actually work for heavy sleepers: volume ramps, missions, re-ring rules and placement.
If you've ever slept through five alarms, you're not alone. Heavy sleepers need an alarm that is hard to ignore and hard to dismiss while half-asleep.
1. Turn off the easy exits
- Disable snooze, or allow just one with a short limit.
- Lock the volume so side buttons can't lower it.
- Turn on 'Block App Deletion' so you can't uninstall at 6 AM.
2. Choose a mission that gets you vertical
Brain tasks wake your mind; photo and fitness tasks wake your body. For heavy sleepers, a photo mission that requires walking to another room is often the most effective.
3. Use Wake-up Check
Some people complete a mission and fall straight back asleep. A Wake-up Check asks you to confirm you're awake a few minutes later — miss it and the alarm rings again.
4. Make the phone reliable
On Android, battery optimisation can stop alarms overnight. Allow autostart and remove battery restrictions for your alarm app.
5. Add stakes if nothing else works
Hardcore Mode lets you put a small amount of money on each alarm. Many people find that ₹50 is more motivating than any ringtone.
